While studying Contempory
Dance and Dramatic Arts at Deakin University he began
exploring what lay behind the scenes. Dean began directing
plays and musical theatre productions and also explored stage
costume and lighting design and operation while working as
background in TVC's, feature films and television
productions.
Dean discovered he had a knack for comedy when he played Captain Pedia in the
children's pantomime "Blurb: Tales from the Bookcase" (Big Kids Theatre) .
His comedy character work continued as he played the flamboyantly gay Le
Roy, as he travelled around to various Victorian high schools with the
touring production of "Billy- Profit of Truth" (Double Barrel
Productions).
In 2002 Dean travelled to the UK to
build on his skills and ability, to which he found his work behind the
scenes invaluable, as he began working as a Producers Assistant as well as
for various English Production Companies. This time and experience allowed
him to learn more about the business that is show as well as build on his
skills as a script writer.
Upon returning to Australia Dean flexed his
comedic muscles playing Salvatore in "Mayhem in Milan" to rave reviews
which gave him the confidence to create and perform his own comedy
cabaret; "Who needs a Vagina Anyway" in the 2007 (Melbourne International
Comedy Festival).
Dean's scriptwriting debut during the Midsumma festival; "Rewind". The story of two freinds coming to terms with their best friends death and discovering a video that tells them more about him than they ever expected was also directed by Dean. |
